On February 12th UNLOCK hosted a packed informative session led by Egypt’s top legal and financial experts in Downtown’s premium co-working hub, Consoleya. The session marked the first seminar in UNLOCK’s Growth Series, an initiative aiming to encourage and grow small and medium businesses in Egypt, and covered Egypt’s new e-invoicing regulations and the tax benefits provided under SME law.
“Small and medium enterprise is the backbone of business in Egypt, and we wish to connect business leaders in Egypt with the best talent and minds UNLOCK has to offer,” said Fady Younan, Co-Founder of UNLOCK.
Prior to kicking off panel talks, attendees were briefed by Ahmed El-Haddad, Country GM for the event’s sponsor CorporateStack, on the benefits and ease of using E-Invoice software to comply with the Egyptian Tax Authority’s new requirements.
Ahmed El-Kadeem, Managing Partner of ECOVIS ElKadeem, then walked attendees through Egypt's new e-invoicing regulations and how the portal and filing system will be structured and streamlined. All details and particulars of the necessary documents were discussed in an extensive Q&A before moving forward with the next speaker Hani Kozman, Managing Partner of Kozman & Co.
Kozman enthusiastically greeted the crowd before diving to a thorough explanation of the benefits offered under Egypt’s recent SME Law. “This law is the crown jewel for startups and entrepreneurs,” he explained, before unpacking a detailed and exciting discovery of all the benefits and caveats offered for freelancers and business owners versus Egypt's old taxation law. Attendees were then split into three breakout groups for a thirty-minute session with ElKadeen, Kozman, and Audit Manager Ashraf Abo ElDahab from Khodeir Consulting.
Concluding the day’s proceedings, Younan reaffirmed UNLOCK’s mission to host future UNLOCK Growth Series expert-led talks to help Egyptian SMEs grow with confidence and ease, guiding business leaders to overcome any obstacles creating difficulty.
